Moonjumpers

Charitable Foundation, Inc.

Moonjumpers’ Board Member, MJ Fitzgerald brought the below unfortunate situation to our attention.  I mentioned this to a few of my co-workers.  One employee’s father (who recently passed away) had a slightly used similar wheel chair that was perfect for this individual.  It is a wheel chair where both sides come off to slide into a bed or shower.  Here is the best part, he donated it to the Moonjumpers Charitable Foundation, Inc.  I spoke with the person in need personally and found if that wheel chair meets his needs.  This week the Moonjumpers had the wheel chair delivered to his home.

Four years ago this past July, the individual in need was having dinner with a friend on his back porch.  When he went to get up, he was unable to stand.  The ambulance came and took him to Huntington Hospital where he was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis, a condition which has left him unable to walk since that night.  After spending almost 18 months in the hospital and re-habitation he was finally able to go back to his apartment where he has a hospital bed, home health aides and a wheelchair that was made specifically for him so that the side could come off and he could transfer into his bed.  Over the past two years, his wheelchair has been broken numerous times and of course without it, he was unable to get anywhere.  Most recently, he had to have two toes amputated because the brake on the wheelchair failed while he was exiting on his ramp, he stubbed his toes which became infected.   He is in desperate need of a new chair however getting Medicare/Medicaid to approve it has been unsuccessful.  Any help that the Moonjumper’s Foundation could offer would be greatly appreciated.

It is truly rewarding to be able to help someone in need.
